Wisdom

In our daily lives we are faced with challenges, new adventures and the search for a deeper meaning of our existence. We constantly seek a blueprint, a map or guidelines that will quench the thirst within for an understanding of our purpose as spiritual beings. We have a need to understand our evolution as an individual, as a community and as a part of this planet. We are one and we transcend beyond race, creed or color. Our innate goal is evolution. Rising above obstacles, overcoming challenges and coming into alignment with our true nature are just a few to speak of as we seek understanding and wisdom. Understanding is the foundation of wisdom and wisdom is acquired from experiences and lessons understood. Wisdom is the pillar of our evolution. It is the road map to our destiny. Thereby bringing us clarity in realizing our purpose and our relationship and oneness with each other and the universe. We are all of one accord and we all must work together collectively to bring balance within ourselves, within our culture, within our community and within our world.

In the Odu Irosun Iwori Ifa says,

Ogbon ti o po to eyiti a le fise akoso aye;

Irubo, iwa, iferan oore-sise fun gbogbo eniyan, ni pataki julo awon ti ise alaini,

Ati awon ti o nfe iranlowo lodo wa;

Itara fun ati sisa ipa lati fi kun ire ti o wa ni aye;

Laijeki ire eyikeyii ti a ti ni lo.

Awon eniyan yoo maa lo si orun.

Won yoo si maa pada wa s’ode aye lehin iparada won,

Titi enikookan yoo fi de ipo rere naa.

Nitorinaa nigbati awon omo Odudua pe jo,

Awon ti o yan lati ko ire wa s’ode aye ni a npe ni: eniyan.

"Because of your inner power, good character and wisdom, the things needed to bring about good 

condition in the world are: 

Wisdom that is fully adequate to govern the world as a whole;

Sacrifice; character; the love of doing good for all people, especially those who are in need,

And those who seek assistance from us;

And the eagerness and struggle to increase the world’s prosperity rather than destroy it.

And not let any good at all be lost.

People will continue to come to earth; And they will go back and forth to earth after their transfiguration,

Until everyone has achieved the good condition.

When all the children of Odudua are gathered together, those selected to transfer the good things to the 

world are called eniyan, or human beings."

One of wisdom’s offspring is humility.  Ifa stresses that we must be humble. We must be willing to kneel in order to stand tall. It means giving of yourself to help others.  It means to honor and respect Olodumare, our elders and one another.  We must humble ourselves to Olodumare because it is he who sanctions our prayers.  We must humble ourselves to the voice of our ancestors so they may whisper truth in our ears in order for us to grow and find wisdom.  Being humble requires strength of purpose, it requires relinquishing negative patterns or behavior, dogmas, fears, hatred, resentments, anger and the like in order for our positive energy to flow.  Not coming to terms with these issues recreates them over and over again in the mind, in the heart and in the soul.  People that are not humble do not acquire wisdom. Arrogance and putting oneself above others is the opposite of humility.  It is wisdom we need to heal us from the latter.

In Obara Wori Ifa says,

Bi e ni owo l’owo ko wipe ki e ma di afoju.

Ko wipe ki e ma di asiwere,

Ko wipe ki e ma di aro.

Ko wipe ki e ma di olokunrun ati beebee.

Abuku ara gbogbo le de ba yin.

E je lo tun ogbon gbon.

Ki e tun ero gba.

Ki e mu iwa rere.

Ki e mu ogbon

Ki e wa rubo

Ki ara le ro nyin tinutode

"Even if you have money, it does not mean you will not become blind.

It does not mean you will not go mad. It does not mean you will not become lame.

It does not mean you will not become ill and the like.

You still can become disabled in any part of your body.

Therefore you should go and get more wisdom so that you may think deeply about things.

You should cultivate good character;

You should acquire wisdom;

And you should come and sacrifice so that you may be at ease inside and out."

We must diligently strive for knowledge and understanding. We must strive to use our intellect and wisdom. Challenges and change are an essential part of evolution and wisdom. Earth is our sacred classroom and everyday that we walk upon it is a lesson and blessing earned. Day by day and bit by bit we grow, and on our journey we constantly gather information that we must sift through and gather unto ourselves that which aids us and release that which hinders us. All the wisdom we need will be provided for us to achieve our goals if we act wisely. No matter how wise we may think we have become does not mean that we have all the answers because each day is a new beginning and another opportunity for learning, growth and increased wisdom.

In Oturupon Meji Ifa says;

Ologbon kan o ta koko omi seti aso.

Omoran kan o moye eepe le.

"Even a wise person cannot tie water into a knot on the hem of a garment.

And no sage knows the number of grains of sand on the ground."

In wisdom we achieve balance and in wisdom we find our purpose.
